Man's Best Friend

“The only, absolute and best friend a man has, in this selfish world, the only one that will not betray or deny him, is his dog”. -King Frederick II of Prussia 1786. Even before cars, electronics, wi-fi, or even the light bulb, animals were always a part of humans. Centuries may have passed, friends may have come and go, and we ourselves may have dramatically changed so much. However, over the years, the one being that has never changed and always stayed by our side were animals. Animals have always provided a phenomenal amount of comfort and support to humans whether it be physical, emotional, or mental. Known to be loyal, the creatures we simply dismiss as "cute four feet animals" are much more than that. They are our best friends, our family, and a huge part of our life and our hearts. Simply put, animals are a very big part of who we are whether we realize it or not. Animals are so important that even King Frederick II of Prussia believed that only dogs are the ones "that will not betray or deny ... a man." If a person back in history who existed 237 years ago believed that animals should be valued and loved, how much more should we as a society love and cherish them? However, instead of looking after our valuable yet vulnerable friends, many evil people have ignored, and abused them that a disgusting number of animals have been hurt. What, then, could we do to stop this cruel world from completely turning their backs to our furry friends? Here are a few things an official organization recommends. Four Paws, a Global Animal Protection Organization urges us to follow the tips listed below to prevent animal cruelty.

1. "Be a responsible pet owner"

2. "Be an example of kindness to other pets"

3. "Report animal cruelty, abuse, or neglect"

4. "Educate people around you about the issue."

If we follow these simple, yet powerful steps, we will be able to be a small help to becoming a step closer to a friendlier and prettier society that shows animals the due respect they deserve.
